Nevada Windmill #3 (R-187)

Nevada Windmill #3. (R-187).

May 2010. In the area of the Schell Creek Mountain Range in the northeast part of Nevada, along highway 50, “America’s Loneliest Highway.” Seventy yards to the left is a late 1800's log cabin (#R-188). Nearby is a sheltering shed for livestock and a complex of corrals, all in disrepair.

We spent the night here. Dinner was some cheddar cheese, two-day old sourdough bread, sliced apples dipped in a thick caramel syrup, and a bottle of Columbia River Riesling. Maggie commented, “Food tastes so much better when looking out at a lot of cow pies.”

This is thirty miles west of the log cabin in image #R-111, taken in May or early June of 1998, during our seven and a half month GUARDIANS OF THE LAND book project (unpublished).
